Relatório do Estágio Supervisionado Obrigatório (ESO); anestesia em felinos: revisão de literatura.

Abstract

The obligatory supervised internship is a compulsory subject in the curriculum of the veterinary medicine course at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE). It can be developed in up to two concentration areas and in up to two private or public institutions, having to be completed a total of 420 hours. With the internship, it is possible to develop practices according to the theoretical knowledge acquired during the graduation period. The first part of the work describes the internship report as well as the activities developed in the field of veterinary anesthesiology during the period. The second consists of a literature review regarding anesthesiology in felines, an area of considerable growth demonstrating the need for updating in animal health in veterinary medicine. Bringing comfort and security to the patient, anesthesiology has been recognized, and the anesthesiologist seen as indispensable by both tutors and veterinarians. In this aspect, it is important to remember that the feline species should not be treated with the same therapy as the canine species, as they have different metabolisms. For this reason there are differences from feline behavior to physiology that need to be taken into account during the anesthetic procedure. This review aims to demonstrate the importance of studies on anesthesia in the feline species and contribute to a greater chance of success in anesthesia in these patients.
